Liz Mathis '20, Women's Soccer

Why Hamilton? I fell in love with the school, Hamilton provides me with amazing academic and athletic opportunities. I also wanted to go to a school where it feels like home.

Favorite Sports Memory: When I first started playing for my club team I had a Haitian coach named Marc. The first day of practice I introduced myself as Elizabeth and he told me it was too lon and difficult to pronounce. I had never been called any other name, he was the first to call me Liz and it gave me a new identity.

Who is your role model? My high school teammate, Jordan, who was two years older than me and very important on our team. Jordan tore her ACL three times, my sophomore year we spent a lot of time together rehabiilitating our ACLs. Jordan was a captain who helped us achieve a state championship and taught me the value of being part of a team no matter what role you play. She showed me a whole new love for the game of soccer and taught me how to fight back against the most unfortunate of circumstances.
