Veasey '17 enjoys impressive start to women's golf season

Hamilton College tied for third place out of 10 teams at the 2016 St. Lawrence University Women's Golf Invitational, which was held at St. Lawrence's Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course on Sept. 3 and 4.

Katie Veasey '17 played her best golf at Hamilton in the first tournament of her fourth and final season with the Continentals. Veasey finished in a three-way tie for sixth place out of 50 golfers with a two-day total of 155. She fired a collegiate-best round of 77 on Saturday and followed with a 6-over 78 on Sunday.

Libbie Warner '19 recorded her best 36-hole score and tied for 10th place at 157. Warner led the team with a 77 in the final round and carded an 80 on the first day. Electra Washburn '19 tied for 14th place with rounds of 81 and 80 for a total of 161. In her first collegiate event, Winda Wanikpun '20 tied for 25th place at 172. Wanikpun's 83 on Sunday was six shots better than her score for her first 18 holes at Hamilton.

The Continentals tied Ithaca College in the team standings at 645. New York University captured the team title at 599 and SUNY Cortland was runner-up at 638. Hamilton set a program record with a four-person team score of 327 on Saturday and then obliterated that mark with a 318 in the second round.

The women make the short trip to the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford for the Utica College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11.
