Samantha Srinivasan '18 and Lauren Getman '18 each scored 12 points and Carly O'Hern '20 added 11 as the Hamilton College women's basketball team defeated Salem State University 77-52 in the consolation game of the Salem State Holiday Classic at Twohig Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. O'Hern, who also had four assists, went 4 of 6 from the field, including 2 of 3 from behind the arc to earn all-tournament honors (pictured below).
Kia Fernandes recorded a game-high 14 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings (3-8). Norma Waggett scored 11 points and Gianna Moschella notched 10 points.
Hamilton shot 72.7 percent from the field in the first quarter as the Continentals built a 22-9 advantage. Tied at 4-4 with 6:33 left in the opening quarter, Hamilton went on a 12-2 spurt highlighted by back-to-back threes from Srinivasan and Getman. The Continentals scored five straight points in the final 3.5 seconds of the first quarter to take a commanding 22-9 lead into the second. A layup and free throw by O'Hern preceded a steal by Aldridge, who converted at the buzzer for the 13-point cushion. Hamilton extended the margin to as many as 19 points in the second quarter before settling for a 36-21 halftime lead.
The Continentals built their lead to 23 points at 46-23 by scoring 10 straight points following two free throws by Salem's Moschella. O'Hern, who had eight points in the third quarter alone, knocked in her second three-pointer to put Hamilton up 49-23 with 6:27 remaining in the quarter. An Aldridge layup gave Hamilton its largest lead at 58-30 before Brianna Rodriguez connected on a three for the Vikings to make the score 58-33 heading into the fourth.
Hamilton maintained its 25-point advantage throughout the fourth quarter behind a five-point effort by Getman and four points each by Srinivasan and Kayla Glemaud '21.
The Continentals travel to William Smith College (5-3) on Jan. 2 for a non-conference game against the Herons at 5 p.m.
