DeWeirdt '18 leads men's cross country at NESCAC Championship

Hamilton College finished in eighth place out of 11 teams at the 2017 NESCAC Men's Cross Country Championship at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine, on Saturday afternoon.

Peter DeWeirdt '18 was the top performer for the Continentals as he took 13th place out of 140 runners with a time of 25:43.5 on the 8-kilometer course. Henry Whipple '18 was next in 21st place with a time of 25:58.2, and Lucas Wright '21 landed in 39th place in 26:24.9. Erich Wohl '18 ended up 75th with a time of 27:01.8 and Reilly Shew '19 rounded out Hamilton's top five in 83rd place and a time of 27:18.8.

The Continentals collected 198 team points in a race that featured five nationally ranked teams. Nationally ranked No. 6 Amherst College captured the team title with 35 points, No. 17 Middlebury College was runner-up with 66, No. 28 Bates College -- the championship host -- was third with 109, No. 26 Connecticut College was fourth with 115 and No. 13 Williams College ended up in fifth place with 126 points.

Hamilton is off until the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championships at Houghton College's Field of Dreams on Saturday, Nov. 11.
