Men's cross country captures Short Course Tuneup title

The Hamilton College men's cross country team cruised to first place out of five teams in the 2017 Hamilton Short Course Tuneup on Saturday.

The meet included a 4-kilometer and a 5-kilometer race. Peter DeWeirdt '18 grabbed the top spot in the 5K with a time of 15:50.5 for the Continentals. Henry Whipple '18 was second out of 59 athletes with a time of 16:06.5, Erich Wohl '18 took third place in 16:24.6 and Reilly Shew '19 ended up fourth with a time of 16:27.9.

Hamilton's Lucas Wright '21 was the individual winner in the 4K with a time of 12:40. Colin Horgan '19 landed in second place out of 23 runners with a time of 13:20.5, Conor Courtney '20 finished third in 13:44.7 and Andrew Wheeler '20 captured fourth place with a time of 13:52.9.

The Continentals put together a team score of 12 points, which was 27 points better than runner-up Utica College.

Hamilton runs in the 2017 NESCAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine, on Saturday, Oct. 28. The men's race starts at noon.
