Men's track & field takes team title at Colgate Invitational

Hamilton College captured the team title in the seven-team 2018 Colgate University Class of '32 Track & Field Invitational at Sanford Field House on Saturday.

The Continentals racked up 171 points as the hosts were runners-up with 117 and SUNY Delhi finished third with 93 points. Hamilton athletes finished first in five events.

Eli Saucier '18 led the way for the Continentals as he set the school record in the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 6.96 seconds in the final. Saucier captured first place in the 200-meter dash in 22.20 seconds. The time is the ninth-fastest performance in NCAA Division III this season. He also anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay that recorded a time of 3:24.52. William Richardson '21, Lucas Wright '21 and Jake Bolster '19 joined Saucier on the relay.

Wright won the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 1:56.75 and Ty Kunzman '20 grabbed the top spot in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 15.70 meters (51 feet, 6.25 inches).

Ryan Sedwick '19 ended up fourth in the final of the 60 meters and Shaquelle Levy '20 was sixth with times of 7.36 and 7.48 seconds, respectively. Sedwick recorded a time of 7.35 seconds in the preliminary heats and Levy's time was 7.46 seconds. Sedwick was fourth in the 200 meters in 24.00 seconds and Mitch Bierman '21 was close behind in fifth place with a time of 24.16 seconds.

Hamilton had three of the top five finishers in the 500-meter dash. Richardson was the runner-up (1:07.38), Justin Dillane '18 landed in third place (1:10.68) and Aaron Kraus '21 took fifth place (1:11.44).

The Continentals also dominated the mile run with four of the top six finishers. Wright led the way in second place (4:25.29), Peter DeWeirdt '18 was third (4:30.40), Andrew Sinclair '18 was fourth (4:30.97) and Erich Wohl '18 rounded out the quartet in sixth place (4:35.93). Wohl, Dillane, Colin Horgan '19 and DeWeirdt collected second place in the 4x800-meter relay (8:12.98), less than two seconds behind Colgate.

Hamilton placed three athletes in the top five of the 3,000-meter run. Bryce Murdick '20 claimed third place (9:18.36), Peter Ross '20 was close behind in fourth place (9:18.91) and Frank Zuroski '20 finished fifth (9:21.11).

Patrick Malin '18 was runner-up in the shot put with a distance of 12.11 meters (39 feet, 8.75 inches). Bolster finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in 53.15 seconds and Cal Reynolds '20 was fifth in the 800 meters (2:02.88).

The Continentals compete in the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 17.
