Men's track & field competes at Rensselaer's Upstate Classic

The Hamilton College men's track & field team competed at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's 2017 Upstate Track & Field Classic Saturday in Troy, N.Y.

The Continentals finished in fourth place among the 11 competing teams, paced by Eli Saucier '18, who broke one school record and tied another. Saucier won both the 200 and 100-meter dashes, posting respective times of 21.56 seconds (a school-record performance) and 10.84 seconds (matching the previous record). His performance in the 100 qualifies him for next month's Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Championships.

Jack Pierce '17 also turned in a first-place finish, posting a winning time of 15:54.90 in the 5,000-meter run.

Three Continentals joined Saucier in the 100-meter finals. Ryan Sedwick '19 was the runner-up in 11.12. Samuel Robinson '20 took fourth in 11.38 and Thomas Bisko '18 finished eighth with a time of 11.76. Bisko qualified for the finals with a time of 11.57 seconds.

Preston DeLaurentis '18 placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.70 meters (44 feet, 11.5 inches) and Ty Kunzman '20 was fourth in the discus throw (37.26 meters/122 feet, 3 inches). Kunzman earned points in two other events, taking sixth in the javelin throw with a mark of 42.54 meters (139 feet, 7 inches) and finishing eighth in the hammer throw (38.54 meters/126 feet, 5 inches). 

Bryce Murdick '20 took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 10:12.32. In the 400-meter dash, Matthew McCarron '17 posted a time of 52.07 seconds, good for fifth place.

Rounding out the Continentals' individual scorers were Christopher Albino '20 and Cal Reynolds '20. Albino cleared 1.68 meters/5 feet, 6 inches to take seventh in the high jump and Reynolds finished eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:06.76.

Two Hamilton relays recorded top-three finishes. The 400-meter foursome of Sedwick, Saucier, Samuel Robinson '20 and Bisko took second in an ECAC Championships-qualifying time of 43.55 seconds. McCarron, Saucier, Albino and anchor leg Jake Bolster '19 placed third with a time of 3:35.89.

The Continentals host their annual mid-week meet Tuesday at Pritchard Track.
