Men's swimming & diving cruises past Utica in season opener

The Hamilton College men's swimming and diving team finished first in nine of the 11 swimming events and the Continentals breezed to a 142-72 dual meet win against the Utica College Pioneers at Hamilton's Bristol Pool on Friday.

The Continentals were competing in their 2017-18 season opener while Utica's record dropped to 4-3 in dual meets. Hamilton travels to SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, N.Y., for another dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.

Evan Tatro '20 and Case Tatro '18 were a two-man force against the Pioneers. The brothers combined for three individual event victories and were on the same winning relay. Evan Tatro grabbed first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.75 and in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.60 seconds. Case Tatro took first place in the 500 free (5:05.50) and he and his brother accounted for half of the 200 free relay that finished first in 1:32.74. Valentin Scognamillo '21 and Ben Cornaglia '19 rounded out the relay.

Tripp Miller '18 was a double winner in the 200 individual medley (2:00.67) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.40). Jesse Bennett '19 was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:03.14) and Ben Kaplan '21 landed in third place (1:03.68).

Kaplan was part of the 200 medley relay that finished in first place with a time of 1:45.13. Jordan Allen '19, Ben Cooper '18 and Jake Lowy '19 joined Kaplan on that relay. Cooper was victorious in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.03 seconds and Allen was close behind in 57.90 seconds. Trevor Pearson '18 captured first place in the 1,000 free (10:43.96).
