The Hamilton College men's soccer team fell to nationally ranked No. 4 Tufts University 4-0 on Saturday in a 2017 NESCAC Championship semifinal in Medford, Mass.
Kevin Halliday scored the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute when he took a shot from outside the 18-yard box and clanged the ball off the far post and into the net. Halliday scored his second of the day off a direct kick into the upper left corner of the net in the 55th minute. Joe Braun scored in the 73rd minute and Jack Delaney scored the final goal three minutes later.
Tufts (14-1-2 overall) advances to the NESCAC championship final on Sunday, Nov. 5 at noon.
Hamilton's two most promising scoring opportunities came in the 22nd and 66th minutes. Matt Kastilahn '18 took a free kick for the Continentals (8-7-2) from the middle of the field and served the ball to Tufts' penalty mark. Eli Morris '18 elevated above the defenders and headed the ball into the crossbar. Jeff Plump '20 lofted a corner kick to the back post with 25 minutes remaining in the second half, but Luke Eckels '20 header shot went just above the crossbar.
The Jumbos had a 14-7 shot advantage and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Linds Cadwell '20 made two saves in 82-plus minutes and Pete Calleri '18 finished the match in goal for Hamilton. Conner Mieth stopped two shots for Tufts, which has allowed one goal this fall.
