Hamilton College's Greg Milnarik '19 scored his first collegiate goal as the Continentals ended the regular season with a 4-1 non-conference loss to nationally ranked No. 7 SUNY Oneonta at Oneonta's Red Dragon Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Continentals (7-6-2 overall) took a 1-0 lead 9:35 into the game. Bobby Chapman '19 moved around an Oneonta defender in the corner and served the ball to Jefri Schmidt '20 inside the 18-yard box. Schmidt passed to the front of the net and Milnarik fired a shot past Nicholas Giordano (four saves) from five yards out.
Oneonta (13-1-2) responded 83 seconds later. Daniel Ioos dished the ball to Nicholas Plate, and Plate passed around Linds Cadwell '20 for Witman Hernandez to tap into the net.
Hamilton had a chance to retake the lead in the 20th minute off a cross from Aidan Wood '20. Giordano stopped the initial shot by Milnarik and the rebound bounced just past the reach of Jeff Plump '20.
The game remained locked at 1-1 going into halftime.
The Red Dragons took the lead 7:37 into the second half when Justin Cebollero headed in a corner kick by Plate. Hernandez scored his second goal a little more than two minutes later just past Cadwell's outstretched hands, and Kevin Hoff headed in the final goal off another Plate corner kick in the 68th minute.
Jonny Gerstein '21 had a couple chances to cut into the Oneonta lead late in the game. Gerstein ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box in the 86th minute that sailed just high of the crossbar, and he connected again with two minutes remaining but the ball went left of the far post.
Oneonta outshot Hamilton 17-8 and had four corner kicks to three for the Continentals.
Cadwell made four stops in net for Hamilton and Pete Calleri '18 saved one shot in the final 18-plus minutes.
