Men's soccer rallies for 3-2 non-conference victory at Ithaca

Hamilton College scored three times in the second half and the Continentals rallied for a 3-2 non-conference win against Ithaca College at Ithaca's Higgins Stadium on Wednesday night.

Hamilton (2-1-1 overall) owns four straight wins against the Bombers. Five Continentals recorded at least a point and Linds Cadwell '20 made four saves in goal.

Ithaca (3-2-1) had allowed just two goals in its previous five games. Max Lichtenstein started in goal and made one save before Dan Hinckley replaced him in the 56th minute and stopped one shot the rest of the way.

Jefri Schmidt '20 scored the game-winning goal for Hamilton in the 65th minute on an assist from Luke Eckels '20. Schmidt leads the Continentals with three goals and six points. He has eight goals in his Hamilton career. The Continentals have scored 11 goals in four games, an average of almost three per contest.

The Bombers took three shots (just one on goal) and three corner kicks after Schmidt's go-ahead goal. They played their last corner as time ran out.

Ithaca grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Nate Mansfield four minutes into the first half. Zack Lichtman was credited with the assist. The Bombers took that one-goal lead into the break.

The teams combined to score four goals in the opening 20 minutes of the second half. Matt Casadei '19 tied the score on a diving header for his second goal this year on a pass from Jeffrey Plump '20 in the 49th minute. Casadei has four career goals and Plump has a team-high three assists this season.

Ithaca went back in front on a goal by Jack Ochs in the 58th minute but Aidan Wood '20 pulled the Continentals even again with his second goal this year and 10th career point just 70 seconds later.

Hamilton travels to Trinity College for a NESCAC game on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m.
