The Hamilton College Continentals competed at the 2018 New York State Collegiate Championships on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Saturday.
Hamilton and Rochester Institute of Technology left the competition in the wake in the varsity 8 qualifying heat. The Tigers edged ahead and finished first (6:30.100), a fraction of a second before the Continentals (6:30.294). Hamilton posted a time of 6:39.872 in the grand final to place second to the U.S. Military Academy (6:36.600), and RIT finished third with a time of 6:41.901. The Continentals medalled for the second straight year in the event and earned silver for the first time in program history.
The Continentals also entered a boat in the junior varsity 8. Hamilton (6:44.816) and the U.S. Military Academy (6:43.000) battled the entire race but Army pulled out the win by less than two seconds.
In the novice fours, Hamilton placed third with a time of 8:16.601 while SUNY Geneseo captured first place in 8:10.100. The Continentals topped their morning qualifying heat with a time of 7:50.600.
Hamilton travels to Worcester, Mass., for the 2018 National Invitational Rowing Championships on Friday, May 11. The event also doubles as the NESCAC Championships.
