The Hamilton College men's rowing team finished first in the varsity 8 and second varsity 8 in the Bridge to Bridge Regatta on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on Sunday.

Racing conditions were near perfect with a slight tailwind building toward the end of racing. Hamilton posted a winning time of 21:44.9 on the 6.6-kilometer course in the varsity 8. Clarkson University was second in 23:00.2 and St. Lawrence University ended up third in 23:27.1. In the second varsity 8 the Continentals (23:33.7) bested a pair of St. Lawrence entries. The Saints' 2V recorded a time of 23:46.4 and their 3V finished in 25:43.1.

"It was great to see all four of our varsity eights get a win in our opening race, it sets a great tone," head coach Rob Weber said. "And our novices got their first race under their belts. Our student-athletes have set lofty goals for themselves, and this was the way to come out of the gates. We can -- and will -- get better, and to be competitive in upcoming races, we need to get better. But, our kids have been working really hard, and it paid off today."

Hamilton finished behind St. Lawrence in a head-to-head matchup in the men's four with coxswain. The Continentals' novice four time was 17:15.3 while the Saints' varsity four recorded a time of 15:45.4 on the 4-kilometer course.

Hamilton competes in the Head of the Genesee on Saturday, Oct. 7.
