Lauren (Steates) Cupp '07 was named head coach of the Hamilton College men's and women's golf teams in July 2017. Cupp had been serving as interim head coach since January.

Cupp started her Hamilton golf coaching career as an assistant in the fall of 2012 when women's golf became the athletic department's 29th intercollegiate varsity sport. She was promoted to associate head coach in June 2015 and served in that capacity until January 2017. As an undergraduate at the College she helped form the women's golf club program and competed with the team for three years.

Cupp helped the Hamilton men qualify for the 2013, 2015 and 2016 NESCAC championship. She has guided 10 NESCAC men's and women's all-conference team selections and one NESCAC men's rookie of the year.

The New Hartford native is one of the top women's golfers in Central New York. In July 2017 Cupp won her first New York State Golf Association Women's Mid-Amateur Championship after finishing in the top 10 five times in the event. She qualified for the 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship and then made the cut for match play competition.

Cupp won the inaugural women's open division title at the 2016 Greater Utica City Amateur Tournament and captured at least a share of her seventh Rome City Women's Amateur Golf Tournament crown later that summer. She owns 16 individual women's championships at New Hartford's Yahnundasis Golf Club and 2011 and 2017 Syracuse Post-Standard/Apogee Investment Management Championship women's titles.

Cupp has a bachelor's degree in economics from Hamilton and she earned her master's degree in childhood education from Utica College. She was a
member of the Continentals' volleyball and track & field teams. She was on the track & field coaching staff for two seasons and worked with the high jumpers, long jumpers and triple jumpers. She coached a two-time all-American in the triple jump.
