Hamilton College celebrated the start of the 2017-18 season by capturing the team title in the 2017 Hamilton Men's Golf Invitational at rain-soaked Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford on Sunday.

The Continentals boasted a four-person team score of 307 in ideal playing conditions on Saturday and recorded just a slightly higher total of 309 in a wet, cold final round. Hamilton's tournament total of 616 was 12 strokes better than the runners-up from SUNY Oswego. Stevens Institute of Technology was third in the 10-team field at 640.

Three Continentals finished in the top six out of 48 golfers who played all 36 holes. Joe Tigani '18, who is a three-time member of the all-region team, picked up where he left off last season with medalist honors after rounds of 77 and 74 for a two-day total of 151. Tigani's 3-over 74 on Sunday tied the best round of the day.

Jeremy Benjamin '19 was right behind Tigani in second place at 153 with rounds of 77 and 76. Benjamin also finished second at last fall's Utica College Invitational which was also held at Yahnundasis GC. Bobby Osborn '20 tied the best round of the tournament and tied his career best with a 73 on Saturday. Osborn ended up in a tie for fourth place at 155.

Andrew Watson '19 tied for eighth place at 157 after he carded a 77 on Sunday. Thomas Graham '21 and Nicholas Schanzer '21 were solid in their collegiate debuts as they played on Hamilton's 'B' team. Graham posted a 78 on Saturday and tied for 12th place at 161, and Schanzer fired a final-round 79 for a 36-hole total of 162, good for a tie for 14th place.

Hamilton competes in the St. Lawrence University Invitational at Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 and 10.
