Josh Miller is in his fourth year with the Hamilton College coaching staff as the defensive coordinator and he also oversees the secondary. One of Miller's defensive linemen made the NESCAC all-conference first team in 2016. In 2015 three of Miller's players finished in the top 10 on the NESCAC's total sacks list. He guided one player to NESCAC all-conference, all-region and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III all-star teams on defense in 2014.

Before coming to Clinton, Miller spent five seasons at Alfred University, including three as the program's head junior varsity coach. His responsibilities with the Saxons included coaching the linebackers, defensive linemen and defensive backs.

During Miller's time at Alfred, the Saxons made two NCAA playoff appearances (2009, 2010) and played in three ECAC postseason games (2011-13). He coached players who earned all-conference recognition seven times, all-region accolades twice and all-America honors once. In 2013, Alfred's defense ranked 16th in Division III in turnovers forced and fifth in interceptions thanks in part to Miller.

Miller graduated from St. Lawrence University where he played four seasons for the Saints. He started at outside linebacker and made the Liberty League all-academic team three times. He earned his bachelor's degree in history and his master's degree is from Alfred.
