Baseball drops doubleheader to Williams

The Hamilton College baseball team dropped a NESCAC West Division doubleheader to visiting Williams College Saturday at the Loop Road Complex, losing game one 1-0 and falling 7-5 in game two.

The Continentals (14-16 overall, 2-9 NESCAC West Division) were held to one hit (a second-inning single by Kenny Collins '17) in the opener as John Lamont threw a complete-game shutout, facing just 27 batters. The Ephs scored the game's only run in the second when Kellen Hatheway's sacrifice fly scored Jackson Parese, who'd led off with a triple.

Hamilton's best scoring chance came in the sixth when the Continentals loaded the bases with one out. Jordan Northrup '19 walked and pinch-hitter Justin Schirmacher '20 was hit by a pitch. After a groundout moved them to second and third, Ryan Wolfsberg '17 was intentionally walked before Lamont retired the next two hitters to preserve the shutout.

In game two, Williams scored twice in the sixth to take the lead for good. Nate Michalski doubled in the go-ahead run and scored an insurance run on a Jack Cloud single.

The visitors tacked on a run in the eighth when Hatheway and Jack Roberts hit consecutive doubles and Hamilton pulled to within 5-4 in the bottom of the inning. Nate Goodman '20 singled and came home on a wild pitch.

Northrup and Goodman had two hits each for Hamilton. Brett Mele '17 singled home two runs in the third to tie the score after the Ephs took a 3-1 lead in the top of the inning.

Winning pitcher Sean Hager improved to 4-1 on the season. Kyle Dean picked up the save, allowing just two hits over the final four innings.

The Continentals' next scheduled action is Tuesday when they'll host Utica College in the annual Jackie Robinson Memorial Game. First pitch is set for 4:15 at the Loop Road Complex.
